What is Pure Gold ?

Gold is a natural metal. Gold jewelry is usually described in terms of caratage which is an indication of its gold content, for example 22 carat or 22K. Pure Gold is 24 carats (i.e. 99.9% pure). Such a metal in its purest state is very soft and impractical for making jewels.

To create jewelry that is practically wearable, gold has to be alloyed with other harder metals in the required proportions to make it malleable and durable. It is then called 22K, 18K and so on depending on the percentage of alloy that is added.

Gold jewelry used in India are of the following caratage:

What are alloys?

Alloys are basically mixtures of more than one metal, usually added to increase the strength and enhance the colour of Gold. Copper and Silver are the commonly used metals in a Gold alloy.

What is 916 Gold?

The common Gold alloy to be used in any good quality gold jewel is 22 Kt Gold. It means that the gold is 91.6 % pure and hence the name 916 Pure Gold, an internationally accepted standard.

	Before wearing any jewelry, check if they are in perfect condition, without any damages and scratches.
	Always wear jewelry after applying make-up, because chemicals in perfumes or talc may damage your precious ornaments.
	Jewelry should not be worn while doing any hard chores, especially if they are stone studded. They get scratched easily and may eventually loose their original shine.
	Jewels should not come in contact with water for a prolonged period because they may get tarnished soon.
	Remove your jewelry before bathing.
	After removing make sure to inspect your jewels for loose parts, chipped stones, or any other damages and bring it to a professional jeweler for immediate repair.

Always store your jewelry in a clean, dry place. The best solution for storing your jewelry is to keep them in a jewel box.
	Always separate and store all your jewels in fabric-lined jewelry case, or in a box with compartments.
	If you prefer to use an ordinary box, remember to wrap each piece individually in a soft tissue paper to avoid scratches.
	Don't jumble your ornaments in a drawer or a jewelry case, as chances are high for it to get damaged.
	Before storing your jewelry after any use, gently wipe them clean of sweat or grease using a soft cloth.

	Remember that gold is lasting and durable but can get scratched or dented if treated roughly.
	Gold's worst enemy is chlorine. Repeated exposure can weaken gold's structure, eventually leading to breakage. So keep your gold jewelry away from chlorinated waters such as swimming pools and jacuzzis.

Diamond is the hardest substance known to man.
	Bridal sets in diamond, should always be worn with much care, keeping in mind the crowd and the occasion, for they may easily get displaced or even lost.
	Before storing diamond jewelry, check on all sides for any loose stones. If there are any loose prongs or chipped stones, bring them to us for a check or repair.

Periodic cleaning of your precious jewelry will help you maintain their original beauty for a long period. Never clean your jewelry over the sink, instead make use of a bowl.

How to Clean your Jewelry?

Warm Detergent Wash

Ultrasonic Cleaners

	First take a shallow bowl and mix a little household detergent in warm water.
	Place your jewels in the bath for a few seconds and gently brush with a soft old toothbrush.
	Then transfer them carefully to a wire tea strainer or a sieve and rinse under running water.
	Pat dry with a soft cotton cloth immediately. Your jewels will glitter like new now.
While cleaning any jewel in the warm detergent bath, avoid harsh fibres, household scrub or coarse powder. Use only a mild household detergent.

Another easy solution to keep your jewels clean is to make use of, 'Ultrasonic Cleaners'. These machines can clean your jewelry in a matter of minutes by creating high-frequency turbulence. They are available in various models and can be a convenient way to quickly clean your jewels at home. However, take care when cleaning stone-studded jewelry as vibrations created might loosen the settings in the jewel and may cause the stones to fall.

For cleaning pearls, use only a mild detergent solution, highly diluted. Quickly clean and rinse in running water immediately. Wipe the pearls with a soft tissue after cleaning.
